Well, it’s here. The SCAA (Specialty Coffee Association of America) has redesigned their Coffee Taster’s Flavor Wheel.
The old wheel had one wheel for good tastes, and one wheel for defects. This combines them, acknowledging that sometimes good coffees have negative traits and vice versa.
It’s a lot like the Counter Culture Taster’s Wheel, here:
To tell you the truth, I’ve been using the Counter Culture wheel and the CoffeeGeek simplified Cupping Form for daily cupping for ages, as I find them both more straightforward than the SCAA standard forms, and because I love the addition of the Body chart (body is the hardest thing for me to identify and communicate, personally). The new SCAA wheel strikes me as incredibly intuitive and easy to use, though, and I’m excited to start using it.
